The speaker will describe the Enriched Memory Care with Therapy service being delivered at 4 Sunrise Senior Living Homes as part of a University of Exeter trial into the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation as a care service.

She will show how therapeutic techniques can be used to enable people with dementia to improve in every day function and describe the impact on the service, residents and their families


Biography

Jackie Pool is Director of Memory Care with Sunrise Senior Living UK and Gracewell Healthcare and an Occupational Therapist with over 30 years of experience specialising in dementia care. She is the author of the Pool Activity Level (PAL) Instrument, a reliable and valid tool for assessing and profiling cognitive and functional ability.

Her recent book: ‘Reducing the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias’ was published in November 2018.

Jackie was a member of the working group for the National Dementia Strategy and also contributed to the NICE Guidelines for dementia. She was commissioned by Skills for Care to write the Qualification and Credit Framework on dementia and speaks nationally and internationally on topics relating to dementia care and support
