GoodGym - how runners are helping older neighbours stay safe and independent at home

GoodGym are working with delivery partners up and down the country to encourage runners to use their exercise to connect with and support older people in their community. Learn about how people are using their exercise for social good, through carrying out physical tasks around the home, or combining regular social visits as part of their weekly run.

Biography

Alex is the Head of Business Development of GoodGym (www.goodgym.org), a charity and social enterprise that creates opportunities for people to run and volunteer in their local area, either helping community groups or visiting isolated older people. He has been a runner with GoodGym since April 2013, hooked on the idea of finding new and creative ways for people to connect and build their own social networks.

Before GoodGym, he worked for ten years within local government, working in a variety of strategy roles across Shepway, Camden and Lambeth councils, and has a passion for how the public and voluntary sectors can work better together to strengthen resilience in local communities.
