Intergenerational Connections and Hope

The seminar will explore the extent to which intergenerational programmes changes lives. It will scope the challenges we face as a society in addressing isolation and loneliness, the impact on mental health across generations and the potential of intergenerational activities to make a difference. It also asks us to consider if building hope for the future through IG activities is something we can all share.


Biography

Melrose Stewart is a Chartered Physiotherapist, ex Vice President of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), TEDx speaker, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and lecturer in the School of Sports, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Birmingham. She held an expert role in the successful, twice BAFTA nominated and Grierson Awarded Channel 4 television programme, ‘Old Peoples Home for 4 year Olds’. Melrose was invited to deliver the Founders Lecture for Physiotherapy UK 2019, the flagship scientific conference for UK physiotherapists with a sold out attendance of 1300 people. Melrose is the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award from the CSP for her services in the area of equality and diversity. She has delivered talks nationally and internationally on intergenerational activities. She has a personal and professional interest in public health and health promotion and tries to stay fit by regularly participating in aerobics and park runs.
